However, this Hong Kong female dancer not only danced K-pop covers, but ultimately became a part of a K-pop music video. She is the Hong Kong dancer Melody.

Melody started learning ballet from a young age. In secondary school, she fell in love with K-pop and taught herself to break down and learn the dance steps. In university, she joined Danso and became a team manager responsible for choreographing dances. Throughout university, she constantly challenged herself, learning different dance styles and genres from various teachers and classes.

Due to her passion for K-pop music and culture, she developed the desire to go to Korea to develop her career. In the end, she put this plan into action: “I’ve always wanted to break out of Hong Kong and do something that no one has done before.” After graduating from university, she went to Korea to participate in a dance camp, and gave herself a year of working holiday to work hard. She may not have imagined that one day she would actually become the dancer for her “idol of destiny”, performing in the same music video.

When Melody went to Korea to develop her career, it was during the pandemic period, and many large-scale music projects were restricted to being done locally in Korea. This in turn created a high demand for dancers (especially supporting dancers). She bravely went for agency auditions, and ultimately got selected to start working as a demo dancer.

When Melody first arrived in Korea, she did not have a job yet, and the flexible schedule allowed her to go all out. She mentioned: “The company would call me every day, so I would go every day. At the peak, I was doing demos for 3 different projects simultaneously. Gradually, I got to know everyone better and started building connections.” After that, she didn’t stop. Many people are afraid of auditions, but she bravely and decisively kept trying. She said: “Whenever there were dancer auditions, I would go try. I actually failed a lot, maybe only 2-3 out of 10 auditions were successful. But I believe that if you persevere and keep trying, someone will remember you.”

Some dancers already have a high profile when they go abroad to develop their careers. But Melody felt that she was just an experienced dancer. She mentioned: “The biggest challenge is definitely the language and culture. People won’t especially accommodate you. Since I chose to work here, I have to find ways to integrate into the culture and practice Korean.”

She shared that the courage to venture out came from the people around her who had always supported her. She gratefully mentioned: “Thank you to my mom and aunt for being the first to support my decision to develop in Korea, letting me dare to try. And the friends who have taken care of me along the way, and the choreographers who appreciated me.” Lastly, she thanked the version of herself that made the decision to come to Korea, taking that first step which led to the results afterwards.

Source： IG@xxxiydolem

In recent years, many young people have become popular for following and dancing to the dance covers of their favorite K-pop idols or K-pop music videos.
